I am a Management of Information System (MIS) student at Zaman University, Phnom Penh Cambodia. MIS is a new major in Cambodia, and it provides many field of future job such as:

After I graduate from Zaman University in 2015, I would like to be a business development manager for ICT Companies. To be at this position, I need to know how to use some database software. I will choose two database software which are Microsoft Access and SQL Server for my future career.

Microsoft Access 2010

 

Microsoft Access is database software that is commonly used by small businesses, companies or people with low knowledge of database. It processes many types of data such as, text, number, date/time, currency, Boolean, attachment, hyperlink, and so on. We use Microsoft Access to keeps the record, creates tables, queries, data relationship, forms, reports, and so on. Also, it is a relational database, which contains of fields and records. We can set up a relationship between tables by linking the common fields of tables. Moreover, in Microsoft Access, we use field to keep a uniquely data, for example, Student ID, First Name, Last Name, Age, Address, and so on. It provides many important features that help us to do the work easily. For instance, it allows simple or complex graph presentation, has extensive report functionalities, has database query facility, has Wizard to create data bound grids, and it has Visual Basic program procedures. In addition, Microsoft Access 2010 is attached to user interface objects such as, command button, text box, form, and report. We can create reports In Microsoft Access with two methods which are report wizard, and report design. From the two methods, we can create and design different types of report as we want. Finally, Microsoft Access is important and useful software for my future job in the field of Management of Information System. The management skill cannot work easily without database software, therefore; Microsoft Access is good software for me to management all the event and contract happen in future my company.

SQL Server

 

SQL Server stands for Structured Query Language. It is a language that is widely used among enterprise class database system. SQL Server processes data type of integer, character, float, binary, decimal, money, real, datetime, text, image, cursor, table, timestamp, and so on. Also, SQL Server is a relational database that its data can be organized into a two dimension tables. There is relationship between data in the tables.

The features of SQL Server are PowerPivot, Master Data Services, Streamlnsight, data-tier, and SQL Server utility. PowerPivot allows user to import, manipulate, analyze, and export data, while Master Data Services is the new and powerful feature to help organization to create structure and hierarchy for data. Streamlnsight is a new platform integrated with .Net and SQL Server for streams of data in parallel, whereas data-tier is functionally in Visual Studio, while SQL Server Utility allows for a single management dashboard across multiple servers and databases. Moreover, table structure of one file in SQL Server is the actual data in the table is stored in Pages, except BLOB data. The Page is a smaller unit of storing data in SQL Server and it contains the data in rows. A group of 8 adjacent pages together, we call an Extent. In addition, the graphic user interface of form of SQL Server contains of command button, text box, combo box, check box, list box, label, and so on. We can also create report in SQL Server by using report designer, or custom report. Finally, I can see this SQL Server database software is most important for my future job as the information system manager. I will use this database software since it is most powerful and capable with many enterprise class database systems.

        Motherboard: Puget M540i 15 inch Notebook w/ 802.11n, Bluetooth

Reason: This motherboard is capable with Intel® Core™ i5, Core™ i7, Core™ i7 Extreme Mobile. Additionally, its bus speed is 2400 MHz. This motherboard has 2 slots which is enough for me. It has heatsink, and Fan for cooling system. Also, its network connectivity is Gigabit Networking + 802.11 B/G/N. Therefore, I decided to use this motherboard.

        CPU: Intel Core i7 Mobile 2760QM (2.4GHz) QUAD CORE 45W

Reason: This CPU performs fast which is easy for my programming works. Also, I can install many programming software in my laptop.

        RAM: 8GH DDR3-1333 SODIMM (2x4GB)

Reason: This RAM is well fit to the CPU above which makes my laptop perform fast.

         Video Card: NVIDIA Mobile Geforce GTX 560M 1.5GB

Reason: This video card plays the latest DirectX 11 and with Optimus support, it generates a better battery life. Also, it provides the best graphic performance which is good for watching 3D movies, playing 3D games, and surfing the web.

         Hard Drive: 500GB Western Digital Scorpio Black 2.5 inch (7200 RPM)

Reason: It is a good drive for laptops because it helps the laptop to perform faster and it can store millions of data and information. Its read speed average of 88.7MB/s and write speed average of 83.6MB/s.

          CD / DVD Rom: Blu-Ray Player for Puget xx40i

Reason: It allows my laptop to read Blu-Ray discs which I can watch Blu-Ray movies every time I want.

           Case: Carrying Case (Puget M5, V5 series)

Reason: It is a stylish for mid-sized laptop. It’s designed with many pocket and slots, and it protects my laptop when it drops.  

            Mouse: Logitech Anywhere MX Cordless

Reason: It is the best mouse that I can use everywhere whether on the glass surface.

            Power Supply: Spare AC Adapter (Puget M54xi)

Reason: I choose this adapter to supplies AC power to my laptop

            Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1

Reason: I choose this Operating System because I like to use the latest software and it is also a responsible to my future job as Management of Information System that requires me to the first to know how the latest software or program work and teach other people.

Cost according to the website:  $2670.90

Conclusion:

            It is my first experience to customize a computer for major used. I can see many good components that I can use to make my computer become unique and the best. Also, it is not a good choice for students to buy an expensive computer for using only Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, or making Power Point. We should customize our computer according to our need and major that study.

Reviewed Application Software: Microsoft Visual Studio 2010

Review:

Visual Studio 2010 is package software that includes Visual Basic, Visual C++, Visual Web Development, Visual C#, Visual F#, and Project Management. I need this application software for my future career as a software engineer, or business application developer. Also, it has features to change our work from Visual Basic to Visual C++, or other software without closing the program. The interface of this software is eye-catching with well organize and nice features. Also, this application software is very easy to use to create forms or programs by a bit design and some codes. It works in only window operating system.

Pro:

•           Easy to create forms and programs.

•           Save time to find different software to install.

•           Many programs in a single package.

•           Computer speed without installing each application software individual.

Cons:

•           Require online code after install, difficult to get the code.

•           Take a bit long time to open the application.

Summary:

I have used the full version of this software for about 2 months with a trouble. The trouble is that, about a week after I installed the software, it required the online serial number, or code. It was a bad problem for me in that time because I did not have internet access, and it is the final day of my programming assignment. It took me long time to find the code.

Reviewed Application Software: Adobe Dreamweaver CS5

Review:

Adobe Dreamweaver is software that we use to create and design websites. It is a good program for my future career as a web developer. It is very easy to use with three features that we can write code, split, and design. This can help us to arrange interface and write the code. Also, it produces the pattern code as we are typing, so we do not worry about typing the wrong code. However, the interface is not fascinating because of the lack of colors. However, Adobe Dreamweaver does not support with earlier operating system such as, Windows 98, Windows Server 2000, Windows Server 2003, and Mac OS 10.2.x.

Pros:

•           Easy to design website.

•           Have different features to write code, and design.

•           No cost of downloading the software

Cons:

•           Trial version.

•           Interface is not very nice.

Summary:

I have used the trial version of this software for a month without any trouble. I used it to learn some basic HTML code and create some WebPages. This software will be a good assistance for my future job as a web developer because it provides many features and pattern codes that we can use easily to design a website.

            Ultimate Business Plan software is freeware software that we can find to download easily on the internet without paying a cost. This software is used to make business plans and help the company succeed in the market area. It provides two sections that we can use to create a complete business plan. Company section is a place that we can edit information about our company. Plan section is where we can write, edit, and create our business plan. There are many small sections on the left of the plan section that provide procedures for us to arrange our plan. This software is a good choice for me to choose to use for my future job as a business application developer, or business development manager for ICT companies. However, this software does not support with Linux and older versions of Microsoft Windows.

Pros:

•           Give a great help for making business plan.

•           No cost for downloading the software.

•           Small size and open fast.

•           Give tips for new users.

Cons:

•           Cannot print out the report.

Summary:

I have used this software for a short period of time, and it was so interesting to me that I can see the procedures to make the business plan. I need this software for my future job because it will help to do a business plan easier than hand writing. Also, it provides many structures that I can use to make my business plan become true.

Ka chanh Waterfall

Ka Chanh Waterfall is located in Ka Chanh commune, Ban Loung district, Rathanakiri Province, Cambodia. The height of waterfall is about 12 meters, and it is natural resort that has many beautiful views and cools whether attracting many tourists to visit and swim most of the time. Ka Chanh Waterfall stays in the middle of forest and mountain, and it connects with many rivers, and also has scenic rubber plantations along the road to visit there. In order to see the beautiful natural view, tourists have to walk down on the 72 steps stair down to the waterfall. Under big trees, tourists can sit and have picnic there with their family, friends, or colleagues. Beside this, near the top of waterfall, there are some places selling food, beverages, and souvenirs for visitors. In my opinion, Ka Chanh Waterfall is very attractive and natural for someone who likes to spend their free time at a quiet and peaceful place.
